Embrace the Craze of Social Media

The Impact: Like it or not, undeniable is the fact that the impact of social media on the lives of the ordinary have gone crazy and huge past few years.On one hand, where the personal life is often shamelessly going public, the world of economy is constantly being rewarded on its own respective terms. It is amazing to learn how a huge number of the population is utilizing the platform of social media to built and sustain a decent career for their own selves as well as many others.

Youth and Social Media: Every day more and more number of new apps for social media are making their ways into the world of Internet, and the youth are getting amazing opportunities to explore it in all possible ways. Social media is informative with ‘n’ number of educational sites; it allows the fresh mind to speak of new ideas, get feedback for the same, often ending up to be productive; and of course most importantly, social media means cheap connectivity across the globe.

Social Work and Social Media: Not just money making, social media is being actively used as a social platform to endorse various non-profit organizations who aim in the development of a nation.

Social Media as the Voice of Crowd: Be it about sharing fresh ideas or forming opinion about some cause, social media is being a medium to involve large number of voices at the same time. When one person has something to say to the higher authority of some organization or nation, it might not be heard. On the other hand, social media, by involving many voices to speak for the same cause generally becomes very difficult to avoid.

Senior Citizen and Social Media: Social media is crawling in the lives of senior citizens these days. It is not a surprise that the craze for social media is more amongst the younger generation because this lot have grown up in the world of growing technology. They have always been very comfortable with the same. But as days are passing more and more number of senior citizens, mostly retired ones are finding social media interesting. They are learning with patience to deal with technology so that they may also get the taste of it, to be able to stay in touch with people and family to be more precise.

Social Media Often Faster than television Media: Be it a sudden natural calamity or a man made one, we often get to know about it even before the news channels brings it out to us. A Facebook post from a random somebody, a tweet in Twitter or any other site alike does the trick! This, while it often leads to a distorted version of the news causing distorted opinion or panic, often also ends up being more authentic at times.

Social Media Exists: Every thing has their respective merits and demerits and social media is no exception. One can choose to like it or not, avoiding is just not a possibility.

Why We Avoid Customer Calls

Why is it that we as direct sales consultants avoid calling our customers even though we know that it is to our benefit?  The main reason is that we are scared.  Of what?  That they are going to ask us something that we do not know the answer to; that they are going to want a refund or that they are not happy with their product.  But there is no reason to be scared of these things and we can turn these into positives if we know how!

Can’t Answer – If you do not know the answer to a customer’s question, that is easy enough to resolve.  Make a note and promise that you will look it up and call them back within 24 hours.  Then go to your company’s manual as most of the answers you require are in there but if that does not help, talk to your upline or contact the company.  If you are able to find the information quickly, call your customer back quickly.  They will appreciate it.  If it takes you longer, apologize when you do call but make sure that you do!

Refunds – These are part of any type of business.   Occasionally someone will change their mind because the product isn’t what they thought, they remembered it being differently or it just does not belong.  If your company has a policy to return the product to them, you may want to use that or you can just take it back and keep it.  If they can return it to the company, offer to do it on their behalf.

Not Happy – Sometimes the person does not like the product that they bought because there is a problem with the product or maybe they do not remember the use instructions.  Regardless of the issue, it is best to find out what it is and do your best to resolve it.  If there is a product problem, do what you can to get them a replacement that is not flawed.  If they forget how to use the product, make arrangements to go over and give them a tutorial.

You make these calls to make sure that the customer is happy.  If they are not, you do what you can to make sure that they are.  It may cost you a few dollars or some time, but the sales you will make as a result should more than make up for it.

Take Care of Your Customers

One of the best things that you can do for your business is to care for your customers.  By doing this your customers are likely to come to you when they need something instead of you always having to go to them.    This is because your customers can find a similar product to yours at the store but if you take care of them, they will remember and give you their business in the future.   The easiest way to do this is to make customer calls and take care of your customers.

The first thing that you can do is call your customers to see how they are doing. If you are selling a skin care product that you know should last approximately 30 days, you may want to call after 15 or 20 and see if they need to order more.  And if that particular product comes on sale, do you also call and mention this to them when you are calling to see if they need another order?  This is definitely something that the mall stores do not do.

How about selling jewellery or home décor items?  Do you help people to select those items that will go with what they already have?  How about bringing swatches or items to their home to see how it fits in with those items that they already have?  Do you show them multiple ways that they can wear a piece of jewellery for different events or how they can change it up?

These are easy services for you to add on to what you are doing now to increase your customer service.  When your customer things about that new item they are considering, they will call you first as they know that you will take that extra step to help them with it and that you really care.

Gifts for the Direct Seller

With the holiday season upon us, you may be wondering what to purchase for the person in your life who is in direct sales.  While I cannot guarantee that these gift ideas will come with squeaks of delight and happiness, here are a few ideas.

Day planner

A day planner is a very personal thing and it can be hard to gift someone with one.  But if you know of the one that they like, you can ask them if they have already bought the 2013 pages or if they are looking for a new version (if theirs is looking ragged).   Refills can be quite pricey, not to mention the cost of the planner itself, so this can be a great gift idea.

Pen

If they already have their day planner and they do not need any refills, how about purchasing them a fancy pen to use.  It doesn’t have to be expensive to be a fun gift – glitter pens or different colour pens can be great.  They can then use different colors to mark in different events on their calendar.

Books

There are so many books out there that your direct seller might find useful but they have not purchased for themselves.

Just as they may not have purchases various books, there are many different types of training materials out there.  Due to the price, they may have decided against purchasing them.  That may be beneficial for you as it is something that you can purchase.

Another great tool for the direct seller is a bag with windows in it.  They can then put pictures from their catalogue in it or other information that they think would be beneficial.

Organizational Items

To help the direct seller get organized, you may want to purchase them some items to help.  Keep in mind what type of space they may have in their home and purchase accordingly.  An accordion file folder can be helpful to organize monthly paperwork or a tiered inbox can also be helpful to keep track of what they have and have not dealt with.  Even purchasing the small things like a stapler, paper clips and envelopes can be helpful.  Make the purchases fun by buying items in their favorite colors or add some stickers to the gift to add some fun to organizing.

Gift Certificates to Direct Sales Supply Sites

Sites like The Booster and Business Enhancements have great tools for the direct seller.  But purchasing items like this can be tricky especially as they are online only purchases and not easily returnable.  For that reason, you may prefer to purchase them a gift card or you could ask them for a gift list from the site itself.

11 Quick and Easy Ways to Advertise your Direct Sales Business

Advertising your business does not have to be an expensive and drawn out affair.  Here are some ideas that do not require a lot of time or effort but will help you get your name out there.

Business Cards – These are a necessity.  There are a lot of different places to purchase cards.  Vistaprint is a great option and they have a lot of great designs for very little money.

Newspaper – This is one you have to be careful with.  Many ads charge by the word so it can be easy to get carried away and have an expensive advertisement.  Choose carefully.

Have an Open House – Invite everyone you know to come check it out.  Make it casual, come and go and let people just check things out.  No pressure.

Announcement – Send a letter or announcement to everyone you know that you have started this business.  Maybe it could go out with the invitations to the open house!

Fundraiser – If your company offers a fundraiser program, offer to do one for a group or organization you are involved in.  If they do not offer one, create your own using the hostess program.

Flyers – See where you can place flyers and put them up.  Make sure you go by once in a while to see if a new one needs to be put up.

Donations – Offer a donation of products in exchange for advertising.  You could talk to the local radio station, your favourite charity or anywhere else you can think of.

Schools – If you have children, visit their school and see if you can ut flyers or samples out for the teachers.

Offices – Visit offices and see if you can leave them a basket of product for a week to try out.  Offer to come back and have a lunch time ordering session if anyone is interested or has questions.

Website/Blog/Facebook – If your company does not offer a website, you will want to create one (check any company rules first).  If they offer one, get it setup!

Newsletter – Start collecting address for a newsletter.  Offer specials that are only for those who are signed up on this list.

Beating the December Blahs

December can be a tough month in the direct sales business.  Depending on how long your company takes to ship, you may have to have your orders in within the first week of the month to guarantee delivery.  Then what?  Sit back and enjoy the eggnog?  While this is certainly an option, you may want to use your time in a more productive method.

Calling for Sales – This can be especially helpful if you have inventory that you need to sell.  Call up your customers and see if there is anything that they need or that you can purchase for them on their behalf.  If you can still order for the holidays, make sure they have the whole book available.  If they cannot be guaranteed on time arrive, ask if they would consider purchasing an item that is already in your home.

Customer Service – Call your customers and see how they are enjoying their new product.  If the item was for them, ask for their feedback and if they need to place another order or want to schedule in the New Year for a party.

Get Organized – If you have done customer calls and tried to get orders with no success, or you have run out of contacts, then maybe it is time to sit back.  But you don’t get to rest and read that book that is calling your name, you should be using this time to get caught up on book work, checking your inventory and anything else you do for your business.  Maybe you are low on some supplies and need to order more – this is a good time for that.

Plan for Next Year – Do you have goals for your direct sales business next year?  If you haven’t done tht yet and want to, grab the pen and paper and start jotting them down.  You have all the month to determine what your goals are and what you will do to attain them.

Use Your Customers Preferred Communication Method

A big part of your direct sales business is learning how to communicate with your customers.  You may have a method that you prefer but it may not be the same one as your customers.  For the best results, it is ideal to find the one that you both like or can agree on.

I have a story about this I want to share.

I was looking for a new massage person as the one I was seeing left.  I saw a recommendation on Twitter for this lady whose contact was through Facebook.  I don’t have an issue with Facebook communication so I went over there and sent her a message.  And waited for a reply.  When I did get a reply, she told me she does not check her Facebook private messages very often and to please text her instead.  I do not have texting on my phone (I’m a bit of a dinosaur in that regard) and as a result, she lost out on my business to another location that communicates in a way that I can which is via regular phone.  Even if this person had given me an email address to contact her at we could have come out to some sort of arrangement as that is my ideal method of communication but that option was not given.  There goes my business.  And while I do not go for a massage all that often, I probably go at least half a dozen times a year.

The point of my slightly long winded story is that it is important to communicate with your customers and use the various methods available to you.  We know that small orders can make the difference and that they add up so why not stay in touch and make sure we are not losing those orders?
